All for One’s New Va Claims the Role Is Tougher Because the Original Actor Made Him Too ‘Detestable’

Hiroshi Kamiya took over the role of All For One in My Hero Academia season 7, as the villain has gotten younger. Previously, he was played by Akio Otsuka. For Kamiya, taking over such a complex role wasn’t easy. During an interview with Japan Anime News, the voice actor shared how his predecessor’s portrayal defied his process.

Villains aren’t often completely flawless embodiments of evil. Usually, I try to leave some cracks or add a bit of charm, since that makes them more interesting. But with Afo, Mr. Otsuka didn’t play it that way at all—he went all in on being detestable.
