The sisters, aged 51 and 52 respectively, released their new single Falling Into You, which they co-wrote with Gareth Young, on Wednesday.

Nicole said: ‘We hadn’t worked with Gareth since we made our ‘Everything’s Eventual’ album, so we were amazed at how quickly everything clicked into place again. This song just flowed out of us because it’s very much the story of us.’

The duo, who acted as half of All Saints alongside Melanie Blatt and Shaznay Lewis, hit the scene again in 2023 when they re-released their 2003 song Everything’s Eventual, however this is the latest new music to return.

Their debut hit Fantasy hit the charts in September 2002 and soared to number two before they released top five ballad Don’t Worry a few months later.

Nicole went on: ‘The entire music scene has changed since we put out the first Appleton album. We’re going into this with no expectations and enjoying the process of writing and performing again for the love of it’.

On the feeling of returning after so many years, she said: ‘I think the industry as a whole is much more difficult. Financially, you know, I think people are having a really hard time just touring and making ends meet because it’s so expensive.’

Natalie told Grazia: ‘‘When we walked into [the studio] it was like walking into a time warp. It was like we walked out 20 years ago, and we were walking back in. It’s easy.’

Appleton will perform on BBC Radio 2’s Piano Rooms with the BBC Concert Orchestra on 19 February and later at the iconic Mighty Hoopla festival in May.

Nicole teased details of their sets, saying: ‘We’re planning on throwing in a fun cover or two but you’ll definitely hear all the songs you expect from us.’

The duo have not performed together for over 20 years and last toured with All Saints nearly five years ago.

Nicole’s son Gene, 24, who she shares with ex Liam Gallagher, was one of the driving forces behind the reunion – potentially following his father’s Oasis reunion last year.

She revealed: ‘It was all because when we released Everything Eventual on vinyl [in 2003] we had such great feedback from it that our children, our sons in particular, were like, “Why don’t you guys go back in the studio?”’ a

‘Gene was like, “Why don’t you ask Aunty Nat?” And I was like, “should we?”’
