Last night, the Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly (ESPY) Awards brought the year’s biggest names in athletics to New York City—honoring New York Knicks players and Olympic medalists alike at Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater.
The event was hosted by comedian Marcello Hernàndez and included performances from hip-hop group De La Soul, rapper Ghostface Killah, Slick Rick, and the Savannah Bananas, an exhibition baseball team. Simone Biles, Eileen Gu, and Allyson Felix all presented awards, which were handed out to Jalen Brunson, Alysa Liu, Stephen Curry, OG Anunoby, and Jalen Brunson again. The Knicks point guard was recognized with three individual ESPYs—Best NBA Player, Best Championship Performance, and Best Athlete in Men’s Sports—as well as the coveted Best Team honor.
Liu, who took home the Best Breakthrough Athlete trophy, wore a Louis Vuitton gown for the occasion. The piece was designed with a plunging cowl neckline and a low back, which highlighted her beaded cross necklace and, below it, her tattoo. The American figure skater pulled her signature striped hair into an updo and accepted her award with a touching speech about her famous comeback story. “I’ve been in my sport since I was five years old,” she shared on stage. “I had some really rough times in it and I took two years off, and so for me, it really feels like I broke through in my own way for myself and for my sport.”
Elsewhere, Jordyn Woods supported her fiancé, Karl-Anthony Towns, in a fringe Oscar de la Renta number, while Gu shimmered in Guo Pei. Biles turned to Saudi Arabian designer Eman Alajlan, and Madison Chock went with a Christian Siriano mini.
