Amazon Prime Video had big plans for one of its new shows, but it sounds like those plans have changed rather abruptly.

Back in September, Amazon Prime Video released The Runarounds, a unique coming-of-age drama that follows a real-life rock band that was created for the show. Creators Jonas and Josh Pate had a five-season plan for the show, but it sounds like it has been canceled after just one season.

A Real-Life Band

The show was formed around William Lipton, Axel Ellis, Jeremy Yun, Zendé Murdock and Jesse Golliher, who star in a rock band that is actually currently on tour in real life. The band was formed back in 2021 after Jonas issued a casting call for a group to appear on the Netflix hit Outer Banks, which was also created by the Pate brothers.

“Over the course of one unforgettable summer, they throw themselves into the pursuit of their big break — falling in love, getting into trouble and building the kind of bonds that feel like family along the way. With original music, romantic entanglements and the raw highs and lows of coming-of-age, The Runarounds captures the rush of risking everything at the edge of adulthood to chase your dreams,” the synopsis for the show reads.

A 5-Season Plan

Jonas previously told The Hollywood Reporterthat there was a five-season plan for the series with season 2 expected to follow the band on a “super crappy van on the regional tour playing colleges and 200 capacity rooms” as they grew toward eventually opening at Bonnaroo.

For season 3, Jonas planned for the group to open for another band on a European tour. The fourth season would then follow the band as “a headliner with 5,000 capacity rooms and all the pressures and issues with fame” before the fifth and final season, which would include the band on a stadium tour.

“The dream is can I legitimately take this all the way and feel like you actually were in the van with them,” Jonas told the outlet.

It was a big plan, but it does not sound like it’s going to happen.

‘The Runarounds’ Canceled After 1 Season

On Saturday, Amazon announced that the series had officially been canceled after just one season. However, despite the cancellation of the show, the band shared a message on social media indicating that while the show will not continue, the band will.

“Today, we found out as many of you did that The Runarounds TV show will not be coming back for a season 2. First and foremost we want you to know that while the TV series may have come to a close, as a band we’re here to stay. This is merely the end of one chapter and the beginning of a new one,” the band wrote in a statement on social media. “We want to extend a massive thank you to everyone who helped in creating the first season of the show, from our cast and crew to everyone behind the scenes who believed in this and brought it to life. And most of all, to the incredible supporters that have found their way to our music through this show and turned this into something even bigger than we could have imagined.”

The band is currently out on tour and is slated to perform at Bonnaroo later this summer.

“When we started rehearsals years ago, we could only picture what this would all turn out to be, and getting to actually live it, and share it with the best fans of all time, has meant everything to us. We hope the unforgettable summer with our friends on the beach resonated with you. If the show inspired anyone, at any age, to try and start a garage band with their friends, then the mission was successful. Hearing your stories and connections with the show has been such a privilege, and we truly couldn’t be more lucky,” the band’s statement continued.

“With all of this said, we won’t be stopping the band anytime soon, and if you liked the show and want to see more, grab a ticket, we’re coming to your city! We are working on our debut album and we can’t wait to share new music and make new memories with you.”

The statement also indicated that the band was planning to get back in the studio, promising new music soon.
