Amy Winehouse’s bandmate has shared intimate details about the time he spent with her before her untimely death.
The iconic singer tragically passed away at the age of 27 in July 2011, leaving the world in shock as they grappled with the heartbreaking news. At the time, Amy was reportedly in high spirits and at her happiest. Amy would have been 42 today (14th September).
Just weeks before her death, Amy had embarked on a 12-date European tour, starting in Belgrade.
However, her tour was later canceled so she could take “as long as it takes” to regain her comfort and well-being.
Just days before her death, Amy made her final stage appearance at Camden’s Roundhouse on July 20, 2011, alongside her goddaughter Dionne Bromfield, surprising her to perform her single Mama Said with The Wanted.
In a resurfaced interview, Dale, who played bass for the songstress, said she was in good spirits and was “never far from being OK”.
“I talked to her at 11.30pm, three hours before she went to bed for the last time, and she was on good form,” Dale shared with The Sun.
He continued: “Amy said, ‘Dale, I’ve just been watching myself on YouTube and I can sing, can’t I?’ I replied, ‘Of course you can sing! You’re the best…’ You know. I’m glad she went to bed with that thought. She needed to appreciate she could sing because she was very humble. Even at her level, a person can never see it in themselves.”

Throughout Amy’s career, the late singer faced numerous public challenges. The Me and Mr Jones hitmaker struggled with drug addiction.
However, in her final years, Amy had become clean from drugs after spending time in rehab.
An inquest later determined she died of alcohol poisoning, and heard testimony from a GP who had visited her at home the night before her final drink.
Dr Christina Romete spoke with Amy during her visit and told the court the singer admitted she was drinking again after a long period of abstinence.
She acknowledged the severity of her condition and hauntingly told the doctor, “I don’t want to die”. Dr Romete revealed the star had been prescribed a medication called Librium to help her deal with alcohol withdrawal symptoms.
Romete later described Amy as “one of the most intelligent young women I’ve ever met.”
At the inquest held at St Pancras Coroner’s Court in London, assistant deputy coroner Suzanne Greenaway determined that Amy’s death was due to “accidental alcohol poisoning”. The official ruling was declared as death by misadventure.
