PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Apple Cinemas is wasting no time moving into the Providence Place mall.
The theater will officially open its doors on Nov. 1 — just days after Showcase Cinemas vacated the space.
“Apple Cinemas will bring new energy, new entertainment, and new reasons for families and visitors to spend time at the mall,” said Mark Russo, the attorney in charge of the mall’s receivership. “This reflects our broader commitment to strengthening Providence Place’s long-term success and appeal.”

The original Showcase Cinemas, located on the entertainment level of the mall, first opened 25 year ago with 16 screens and an IMAX theater.
Apple Cinemas plans to renovate the movie theater over the course of the next year. The renovations, which are expected to be completed by winter 2026, include installing luxury recliners and enhancing the IMAX experience, as well as adding a bowling lounge, bar and trampoline park.
“We’re thrilled to bring a completely new kind of entertainment experience to Providence,” Apple Cinemas’ Siva Shan said. “Our vision is to create a space where guests can enjoy movies, games and social fun under one roof.”
The only other Apple Cinemas in Rhode Island opened three years ago at the Warwick Mall.
