“I’m thrilled to be chosen for Up Next South Africa,” she tells TATC. “This new project is one that’s really close to my heart and I feel so lucky that I get to create art I care about and share it with the world.”

Better known as the lead singer of the fever-dream South African indie-pop band HONEYMOAN, Alison Rachel now returns with her debut solo endeavour as Trillion Petals, and the triumphant five-track EP “Hill After Pale Hill.”

An amalgamation of analogue experimentation and soaring indie-rock anthems, lead single “Lucky Girl Mantra” captures the emotional whiplash between god complex and imposter syndrome — an internal conflict familiar to many creatives — and was produced by UK-based artist/producer Sfven.

It sets the tone for what’s to follow, weaving between acoustic proclivities and moments of powerful emotional catharsis.

“I wrote all the tracks on guitar first, alone, before bringing them into the studio to be reimagined,” Rachel explains. Written and recorded with a select group of producer-artists including Nic van Reenen (Ex Olympic) and Radio Trapani, each bring a distinct texture to Rachel’s guitar-led songwriting.

“2025 will be a year of releasing more music as Trillion Petals,” Rachel says. “I am currently working on new songs, and I am super excited about them.”
