SINGAPORE – The cast of musical film Wicked: For Good (2025) is reportedly coming to Singapore, according to a singing contest taking place in the Philippines organised by Universal Pictures Philippines.
In a TikTok post dated Sept 9, the movie studio wrote that contestants will “get a chance to sing the Philippines’ rendition of For Good, appear in the music video and meet the stars” of the film.
For Good is a duet performed by Elphaba – who becomes the Wicked Witch of the West and is played by British actress-singer Cynthia Erivo – and Glinda, who becomes Glinda the Good and is played by American singer-actress Ariana Grande.
Social media posts about the contest from Philippines cinema chain SM Cinema added that contestants stand a chance to win “an all-expenses-paid trip to Singapore and meet the cast of Wicked”.
Contestants are required to record their entries at audition stations in SM Mall of Asia, a chain of malls in the Philippines, from Sept 19 to Oct 5 and upload them on TikTok.
The winners will be decided by Wicked: For Good director Jon M. Chu, Grande and Erivo. The sequel to Wicked (2024) opens in Singapore cinemas on Nov 20.
When contacted about the possibility of a press tour here, local distributor United International Pictures Singapore declined to confirm or deny the rumours.
Chu says in Universal Pictures Philippines’ TikTok post on the contest: “Wicked: For Good is a heartwarming ode to friendship that tells the story of how Elphaba and Glinda have profoundly changed each other’s lives, and we want to hear you sing it.”
He adds: “We are calling on you to grab your best friend and channel Elphaba and Glinda by singing your own rendition of For Good. A special surprise awaits the three pairs whose renditions moved Cynthia, Ariana and I the most.”
The Wicked films are based on the hit 2003 Broadway musical, which has roots in the 1900 classic novel The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz by American author L. Frank Baum, and its 1939 musical film adaptation The Wizard Of Oz.
Chu’s 2024 rendition was the highest-grossing film adaptation of a stage musical, taking in US$756.5 million (S$970 million) at the global box office.
At the 2025 Academy Awards, it won two Oscars – for Best Costume Design and Best Production Design.
