Ava Max is coming home!
The longtime LGBTQ+ ally is finally taking control of her career and kicking off her new era as an independent artist by headlining the Outloud Music Festival during West Hollywood Pride.
Max has performed at a slew of queer festivals since the beginning of her career, so returning to the Pride stage felt like the perfect reintroduction after stepping away from the spotlight.
“I’m so excited! It’s been a long time coming. We have so many songs coming out. I love that we’re kicking it all off with Pride! The LGBTQ+ community was my first community to ever be fans. They were my biggest fans from the get-go. It was a magnetic connection between us,” Max tells Out.
Pride serves as a fresh start for Max as she experienced a career setback in recent years. The singer parted ways from Atlantic Records after her last album, Don’t Click Play, had a turbulent rollout. Now, Max has surrounded herself with a brand new team that celebrates her vision as an independent artist.
“The new era has been fully activated. I went through a lot of transitions last year leaving my label and this year, I feel very independent. I can actually do what I want to do. I’ve been in hermit mode the past couple of years. I feel like a cocoon that’s opened up and I’m a butterfly this year! I’m really excited for everyone to see my wings spread.”
Although the Outloud Music Festival serves as the epitome of queer joy, Max is well aware of the political statement that comes with headlining Pride in the current political climate. With anti-LGBTQ+ legislation gaining momentum around the world, the talented singer is quick to dismiss any bigotry or homophobia as she prioritizes her queer fanbase.
“We’re all born the way we’re supposed to be. There’s no mistake in that. The more we shout that out at the top of our lungs, the better. Anyone else who thinks differently are idiots in my opinion. They’re just dumb! Every single night, we need to stand together.”
