Avatar have announced their 10th studio album, Don’t Go in the Forest, arriving on Halloween (October 31st).
The Swedish metal stalwarts also dropped a new song, “Tonight We Must Be Warriors” — the third single from the album following the previously released tracks “CAPTAIN GOAT” and “In the Airwaves.”
Befitting of its title, “Tonight We Must Be Warriors” is a fist-raising anthem with stadium-rock chants and a gruff and commanding vocal from ever-theatrical frontman Johannes Eckerström. Keeping with the variety of the other two singles and Avatar’s general unpredictability, the track eschews the band’s earlier melodic death metal sound in favor of a Euro power metal vibe.
Said Eckerström of the song in a press release: “In days of isolation and despair, maybe we need to be reminded that we are not alone? We are one of many. Maybe we also need a reminder that the burden is on our shoulders? To get it done, we need to do the fighting ourselves. In our shared pain, we find solidarity.”
Eckerström went on to say that Don’t Go in the Forest is “filled to the brim with stuff we’ve never done before.”
“It’s all songs and concepts we haven’t been close to touch until now,” he said. “The mind is wild and we have lost ourselves in the darkest woods, filled with memories, and fantasies. Forbidden thoughts that must be spoken. It would have been impossible to make this album at any other time than now. That’s all we ever wanted, and I think you’ll find it’s all you ever wanted too.”
News of the LP comes ahead of Avatar’s numerous live commitments, which include a US tour this fall, a European jaunt in 2026, and dates supporting Metallica in Europe next summer.
The stateside headlining trek kicks off a few days after the album drops on November 5th in Phoenix, with dates running through December 7th in Dallas. Support acts include Alien Weaponry and Spiritworld, and you can get tickets here.
