An award-winning country music star is this year’s headline act for the annual Denim and Diamonds fundraiser to benefit Columbus Hospice.
Clint Black, who has won 13 times and been nominated 45 times in the past four decades for Grammy, ACM and CMA awards, is bringing his Back on the Blacktop Tour to the Columbus Civic Center.
The Oct. 24 concert, featuring special guest The Woods, is scheduled to start at 8 p.m., with doors opening at 7 p.m.

For those who buy special tickets that include the pre-show dinner on the floor, doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Call the Columbus Hospice marketing department at 706-243-0389 for the $225 tickets or $1,800 for an eight-person table.
Other than Hank Williams Jr. a dozen years ago, Black is perhaps the most prominent performer to headline the Denim and Diamonds concert in its 25-year history, Terri Roberts, the Columbus Hospice vice president for business development and marketing, told the Ledger-Enquirer.
“There’s a huge buzz for this year’s event,” she said.

It takes about a year to secure a contract with such an artist, Roberts said, but Black was available for the date Columbus Hospice sought from the list of performers provided by United Talent Agency in Nashville.
“We were over the moon,” she said.
Black’s fee initially was above the Columbus Hospice price range, Roberts said, but the agency allowed her to negotiate a lower rate because it made sense for the routing of Black’s tour.
All of which makes Roberts optimistic Columbus Hospice could surpass last year’s total of $170,000 raised from the concert.
“Ticket sales are going really well., and we have higher sponsorship levels on the floor,” she said. “Every penny goes back to caring for our community and our patients and their families.”
