Madison Prewett is shedding light on why she proudly calls herself a “submissive wife” in her marriage to Grant Troutt.
“I learned a lot about being a submissive wife, [which] was a challenge for me at first,” Prewett said on Monday’s episode of her “Stay True” podcast.
“Now, it’s, like, my favorite thing. I love talking about submission,” she added.
The “Bachelor” alum got candid with her podcast guest, Bryce Crawford, about the struggles of her engagement to Troutt, 29, and how it challenged them “in a lot of different ways.”
“There was just a lot going on, even in our personal lives outside of engagement season,” she said. “[Grant’s] grandmother passed away [and] there was just a lot going on in a short time.”
Prewett, also 29, recalled her three-month engagement to Troutt and how “the world thought [they] were crazy.”
“Maybe we were a little bit, but also we were just so excited to get married,” she said.
The “Dare to be True” author reflected on her biggest temptation during her purity journey with her now-husband.
“I think a ring being on my finger was like, ‘Man, it almost feels like we’re married,’” she recalled after the couple pledged to save sex for marriage. “To all engaged couples listening to this podcast, put up the extra boundaries and have your accountability partners.”
“Fight to unite and not be right. That was one of the hardest things for me when we first got married,” she stated. “I just wanted to be right all the time, and it was my way or the highway. I learned a lot through prayer and humbling myself before God. He was, like, ‘Actually, you got a lot of junk to sort through.’ It was very sanctifying.”
Prewett admitted that her day-to-day life as a wife turned out to be the opposite of what she imagined.
“When we got married, I had this thought that every single morning we were going to get up [and] we were going to have our quiet time together. We were going to ask each other intentional questions,” she noted.
“He’s like, ‘No, I’m going to the coffee shop, and I’m having my quiet time. You get alone with the Lord [and] I get alone with the Lord.’ I just learned, ‘Wow, I can’t try and get what only God can give me from [my husband]. I have to get this from God first.’”
The “Love Everybody Wants” author said there’s one daily habit she and Troutt share that “totally shifted everything” after a “challenging and hard” first six months of marriage.
“[It was] very exposing of sins in nature that I thought I had dealt with, and then it just brought back up again. Praying together was very unifying and helped us fight spiritual warfare,” Prewett said.
Prewett rose to fame when she appeared on Season 24 of “The Bachelor” with Peter Weber in 2020.
She and Troutt got engaged in July 2022 after eight months of dating and tied the knot three months later in October.
The couple welcomed their first child, daughter Hosanna, in January.
