If there’s one person who loves her vintage, it’s Bella Hadid. In the past week alone, the Orebella founder has worn a medley of archival looks, from a baby-blue Prada Spring 1999 set, to a bedazzled Elie Saab Fall 2004 Couture gown, and a gingham bra top and matching capris from the Chantal Thomass Spring 1988 collection. And that was just the tip of the iceberg.
As the 79th annual Cannes Film Festival rages on, so does Hadid’s vintage streak, and she pulled out her latest winning find (thanks to the help of her stylist, Mimi Cuttrell) while at Restaurant La Guérite with some friends yesterday afternoon.
For her seaside meal, Hadid went safari-inspired with a ’90s-era Jean Paul Gaultier halter dress that was like a stylish spin on a ranger’s uniform. Of course, the Queen of Cannes never settles for just any ’ole vintage look, and while she loves an unusual find, she always manages to pull it off with ease.
The two-tone dress began with a chocolatey silk material at the bust, with faux pocket flaps for a utilitarian touch. Then, high along her sternum, the dress transformed into a khaki linen skirt, with a matching belt detail cinching the waist, and more pockets decorating the sides of the skirt.
To make the Jurassic Park fit seem more at home along the riviera, Hadid accessorized with some metallic-gold Jimmy Choo Lova sandals, while popping on some large statement jewelry, including hoop earrings, stacks of chunky bangles, and gold-rimmed sunglasses. She also carried a tan shoulder bag to coincide with the hue of her dress.
However, she finished off her look with one more jungle-inspired touch, thanks to a pendant necklace that looked like two teeth tied together, which dangled along her chest.
While we can always count on Cannes to return each year, and usually for Hadid to make an appearance, her fashion continues to be anything but predictable.
