If you’re a rising country singer, scoring a spot on Luke Bryan‘s tour might just be the ultimate dream gig.
Sure, performing in front of thousands of fans night after night is a thrill in itself — but for Ashley Cooke, what happened after the final show on Bryan’s 2023 Country On Tour made the experience truly unforgettable.
The ‘Iconic’ Gift Luke Bryan Gave Ashley Cooke After Touring
In country music, there’s a long-standing tradition where the headliner typically gives their opening act a gift at the end of a tour. It’s a token of appreciation, a way to say “thanks for sharing the road.”
For Cooke, that gift turned out to be hilariously on-brand for Bryan. “I think the funniest one that I’ve experienced so far would be Luke Bryan. If you know Luke Bryan, this is such a Luke Bryan story,” the “Your Place” singer told Taste of Country Nights.
On the last night of the tour, Bryan’s tour manager told Cooke to stop by his tour bus. What she thought was just a casual goodbye turned into something totally unexpected.
“He walked up there and he was like, ‘Thanks for being on the road with me, Ash, love ya,’ and I was like, ‘Love ya, too.’ And he just hands me an envelope, and I’m like, ‘What is this?'”
Inside the envelope? “It’s just a wad of cash,” she revealed. “He goes, ‘Don’t spend it all in one place,’ and I was like, ‘Okay, thanks Luke, love ya, see ya later.'”
Cooke recalled thinking, “‘This is the iconic end-of-tour gift, just a big old wad of cash.'”
The moment was especially meaningful for Cooke, who’s been open about her longtime admiration for Bryan. “I’ve been a huge Luke Bryan fan for so long,” she added.
And now, after touring with one of country music’s biggest stars, she’s got a story, and a tour gift, that’s as memorable as the experience itself.
What’s Next for Ashley Cooke?
Cooke isn’t slowing down. The Florida-born artist recently released a new single to country radio, “The Hell You Are,” which offers a glimpse into her upcoming (yet-to-be-titled) project. She’s also currently out on the road again, this time with Parker McCollum on his What Kinda Man Tour.
