Fans will have to say goodbye to Mid-Century Modern, Hulu’s Nathan Lane-starrer created by Will & Grace creators Max Mutchnick and David Kohan.
Mutchnick shared the cancellation news via his Instagram account, posting a photo of Lane, the show’s producers, and cast members Matt Bomer and Nathan Lee Graham.
“Ten great episodes… Not enough. But we loved making every single one of them. We’re gonna miss our very special show. Thanks to everyone who watched,” wrote Mutchnick, announcing Hulu’s decision not to continue with the show.

Fans were quick to express disappointment, with even cast members sharing their sadness that the comedy would not get a second season.
“We became a family to create a TV show about chosen family. And nobody can take that away from us. It was magical. And filled Linda Lavin with so much joy at the end of her life. This was a blessing on a blessing! Grateful to have been a part of it!!” wrote writer and actor Dan Bucatinsky.
SNL alum Cheri Oteri shared, “I loved working with you and this beautiful cast. Be proud in knowing you created something very special.”
Will & Grace’s Grace, actress Debra Messing, shared her thoughts, writing, “Mazel Tov on bringing laughter and joy to our screens.”
Carson Kressley, of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy fame, offered, “Some amazing TV history nonetheless.”
Everybody Loves Raymond’sBrad Garrett wrote, “Loved the show.”
‘Mid-Century Modern’ Earned Four Emmy Nominations
The show, which was released by Hulu in March 2024 as a binge drop, centered on three gay men “of a certain age” (Lane, Bomer, and Graham) who, after an unexpected death, decide to move in together in a house in Palm Springs.
The show also featured the late Linda Lavin, in one of her final roles, portraying Lane’s mother.
The series received mostly positive reviews and four Emmy nominations, but was never a ratings game-changer.

Despite a robust calendar of projects and commitments, Mid-Century Modern co-star Linda Lavin died at the age of 87 on December 29, 2024, from complications from lung cancer, months before the series premiered.
