BENNINGTON — This summer, Bennington Theater invites students entering 5th grade and up to explore the world of theater through Theater Makers Summer Camp, an immersive, hands-on training experience designed for curious and creative young artists.
The camp will be offered in two independent week-long sessions between July 13–17 and July 27–31.
Each session runs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuition is $230 per session.
Unlike traditional theater camps centered around rehearsing for a final production, Theater Makers Summer Camp emphasizes exploration, collaboration, and hands-on learning across every aspect of theater-making. Participants will spend the week discovering both onstage and backstage disciplines through interactive workshops led by working theater professionals.
Throughout the week, campers will explore acting, voice, movement, lighting, sound, scenic design, costumes, props, music, and more. Each day focuses on a different area of the craft, giving students the chance to experiment creatively, build confidence, and discover new skills in a supportive, process-focused environment.
“At Bennington Theater, we believe theater education should be about curiosity, creativity, and discovery,” said Stephanie Phelan, Director of Education and Outreach at Bennington Theater. “This camp gives students the opportunity to learn how theater really works, from performance to technical production, without the pressure of preparing a polished final show.”
Each day concludes with an informal sharing session where participants can present what they created, explored, or learned with fellow campers in a relaxed environment.
Weekly themes include:
- Monday: The Script | The Actor’s Craft: Explore script analysis, character development, voice, movement, memorization, and scene work.
- Tuesday: The Booth | Paint with Light, Embellish with Sound: Learn the fundamentals of theatrical lighting and sound design through hands-on experimentation.
- Wednesday: Props & Costumes | Become the Character: Discover how costumes and props help bring stories and characters to life.
- Thursday: Sets | Where Characters Live: Explore scenic design and construction while creating original set dioramas.
- Friday: Music | Find Your Voice: Learn the basics of vocal performance and storytelling through song.
Theater Makers Summer Camp is open to students entering 5th grade and above, whether they are aspiring performers, future designers and technicians, or simply interested in trying something new. Registration is now open. For more information or to register, visit benningtontheater.org.
