Beyoncé took to Instagram on April 23 to acknowledge a significant career milestone: Her 2016 album, Lemonade, was released 10 years ago. To celebrate its anniversary, the singer shared a series of photos, including one that may have hinted at her next project.
In the first image of the carousel, Beyoncé posed on the beach in a beige long-sleeve jumpsuit cinched at the waist with a brown leather belt. She accessorized with oversize gold hoop earrings and a lush flower crown.
The singer held her arms up in the air, one hand grasping a full bottle of her SirDavis whisky and the other raising three lemons. Fans in the comments section of the post theorized the lemons could be hinting at her next album, Act III. The project has no release date or official title yet.
In the carousel, Beyoncé included a photo of herself walking toward the beach’s clear blue water and a look at a special sunset dinner she enjoyed. “Cheers to ten years! With love and deep gratitude 🙏🏽🍋🐝,” she captioned the Instagram.
Upon its release, Lemonade became Beyoncé’s sixth consecutive No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart. Its singles “Formation,” “Sorry,” “Hold Up,” “Freedom,” and “All Night” peaked at 10, 11, 13, 35, and 38 on the Billboard Hot 100, respectively.
Beyoncé is currently releasing an album trilogy. She dropped its first part in 2022 with Renaissance (Act I). Cowboy Carter (Act II) arrived in 2024, though she revealed that Renaissance was originally meant to be the second album in the trilogy.
“This album took over five years,” she said of Cowboy Carter in a Parkwood Entertainment press release following the album’s release. “It’s been really great to have the time and the grace to be able to take my time with it. I was initially going to put Cowboy Carter out first, but with the pandemic, there was too much heaviness in the world. We wanted to dance. We deserved to dance. But I had to trust God’s timing.”
“My process is that I typically have to experiment,” Beyoncé added. “I enjoy being open to have the freedom to get all aspects of things I love out and so I worked on many songs. I recorded probably 100 songs. Once that is done, I am able to put the puzzle together and realize the consistencies and the common themes, and then create a solid body of work.”
“I think people are going to be surprised because I don’t think this music is what everyone expects, but it’s the best music I’ve ever made,” she finished.
