Beyoncé has once again proven to be the queen of surprises, having dropped a new song out of the blue this weekend, sending fans into hysteria.
The Grammy-winning music icon, 44, has kept the Beyhive eagerly awaiting new music since the release of her 2024 record Cowboy Carter, which was highly praised for its genre-blending and spotlighting of Black pioneers’ contributions to American music.
It marked the second in a planned trilogy of albums, following Renaissance (2022). And now, with a new single out, fans have every reason to hope that more could be on the way…
Named Morning Dew (Donk), the track was released to mark the 4th of July holiday weekend, as well as another special anniversary.
In a press release, Bey confirmed that its release also starts a 60-day countdown to her next birthday and the re-issue of B’DAY, her groundbreaking second album of 2006.
Written by Beyoncé, Pharrell Williams, The-Dream, and Darius Dixon, Morning Dew (Donk) is the Crazy in Love hitmaker’s first new song in two years and a sweet nod to the fanbase that’s championed her career over the years.
Loyal supporters will know that the global entertainer has an unreleased track called Donk, which surfaced online in 2013 and was originally intended for her self-titled studio album. Again, it was written by Beyoncé, The-Dream, and Pharrell.
So, it’s safe to say that finally releasing it in a new way feels very much ‘for the fans’.
Morning Dew (Donk) will be included on the 20th anniversary edition of B’DAY and has landed with a lyric video featuring repurposed throwback footage, directed by frequent collaborator Cliff Watts.
The single artwork is equally stunning, showing Beyoncé in a sultry black-and-white snap, wearing a bikini and lying on the sand.
Reacting to the surprise drop, fans took to social media in a frenzy, declaring: ‘Beyoncé is back!’
