On September 27, the Carter family celebrated matriarch Hattie White, Jay-Z’s grandmother, as she turned 100-years-old during a party in New York City. Beyoncé shared a montage of images from the event on Friday, October 3, which included shots of her stunning outfit, as well as the looks worn by her husband, by White, by her mother Tina Knowles, and by her eight-year-old daughter, Rumi Carter.
The quick glimpse of Rumi offered a rare look at her fun party style. Rumi wore a white dress with a full tulle skirt, featuring a sheer back with a keyhole cutout and flower details sewn onto the bodice. She paired the dress with silver flats with an ankle strap. Rumi was wearing her hair in long braids and cutting a rug on the dance floor.
Rumi’s mom was wearing a black bustier gown with a corset bodice and long black skirt. Beyoncé had her blonde hair teased up in a glamorous Hollywood style and accessorized with a furry white boa and a pair of black opera gloves studded in white rhinestones. Jay-Z was by her side in a classic black tux and bowtie.
The Cowboy Carter singer also shared a sweet photo of Knowles, who was wearing a red suit, leaning over White as they shared an intimate conversation. The guest of honor was in a blue two-piece decorated with silver sequins. The party guests were also serenaded that night by musical icon Stevie Wonder.
White has been an inspiration to her family, and her words were even featured in the outro of Beyoncé’s 2016 song “Freedom.” She can be heard sharing, “I had my ups and downs, but I always find the inner strength to pull myself up.”
