Bic Runga has officially announced her new album, Red Sunset.
Set for release on Friday, February 13th, one day before Valentine’s Day, Red Sunset was recorded in Paris during the winter of 2025. It’s Runga’s first collection of all-original material since 2011’s Belle.
Red Sunset features the title track, described as “a powerful torch song of longing and desire,” which “evokes the tumultuous emotions of being the one left behind.”
The accompanying music video premiered on Rolling Stone AU/NZ this morning — watch it for the first time below.
Runga’s forthcoming album also features previous singles “It’s Like Summertime”, a song in which Runga recalled her carefree past while looking towards a hopeful future, and “Paris in the Rain”, a cinematic anthem inspired by the titular French city.

Runga will celebrate Red Sunset with a massive run of shows around Aotearoa and Australia, stopping in Hamilton, Christchurch, Melbourne, Sydney, and more cities (see full dates below). It was revealed yesterday that the Kiwi singer-songwriter is one of the first recipients of NZ On Air’s inaugural New Music Project Touring (NMPT) pilot.
Tickets to the tour go on sale to the general public on Tuesday, November 25th at 11am local time. The artist pre-sale begins on Monday, November 24th at 10am local time, as do the Live Nation, Mastercard, and Westpac Mastercard pre-sales. The Spotify pre-sale commences on the same day at 12pm local time.
At the 2023 Rolling Stone Aotearoa Awards, Runga was presented with the prestigious Rolling Stone Icon Award. The Icon Award recognises an artist for achievements over the course of their career, and 2023 was the first time it was awarded at the Rolling Stone Aotearoa Awards. She also stole the show on the night with an incredible live performance.
