Billy Joel, the iconic singer-songwriter, has surprisingly shown his awareness of The Summer I Turned Pretty.
In a now-deleted Instagram post from Friday, Aug. 8, Billy shared a snippet of the popular Amazon Prime Video series that gave him a shout-out, as reported by PEOPLE. In the third season’s fifth episode, Belly Conklin (Lola Tung) enters a bakery looking for a wedding cake. After she finds a cake she desires, the shop owner mentions to her, “Billy Joel picked that cake for his 70th. We have a really exclusive client base.”
After sharing the scene from the teen drama, Billy playfully asked his followers a notable question in the caption, “Are you Team Conrad or Team Jeremiah?” While the Grammy-winning musician didn’t reveal his preference in the show’s romantic entanglement, fans eagerly jumped into the comments to speculate and share their own favorites.
According to the outlet, fans were not only eager to guess Billy’s choice but also expressed their delight at the 76-year-old engaging with the show, reports the Mirror US.
A fan humorously questioned, “Why is Billy posting about TSITP [laughing emoji]. Anyways the only right answer is team conrad.”
Billy’s eldest daughter, Alexa Ray Joel, reportedly weighed in as well, commenting, “Team Conrad always! [red heart emoji] Cuz loving him was red… [musical note]” Alexa’s input cleverly alluded to Taylor Swift‘s song “Red,” which featured in the season three trailer to introduce Conrad Fisher (Chris Briney) and underscore Belly’s emotions towards him.
“The Summer I Turned Pretty” is wrapping up with its third and final season. The series centers on Isabel “Belly” Conklin as she finds herself caught in a love triangle with the Fisher brothers, Jeremiah and Conrad (her initial crush), while maneuvering adolescence.
The show is based on Jenny Han’s book trilogy, which was published from 2009 to 2011 (The Summer I Turned Pretty, It’s Not Without You, and We’ll Always Have Summer).
The Summer I Turned Pretty is streaming on Prime Video, with new episodes of the third season dropping every Wednesday at 3 a.m. ET/midnight PT.
