Bindi Irwin just shared some sweet photos on her Instagram page showing her family rallying behind her brother, Robert Irwin, as he begins his Dancing with the Stars journey.
“Sunny days in LA. Getting ready to cheer for @robertirwinphotography on September 16th when @dancingwiththestars premieres!” Bindi captioned the post, which featured a photo of her, her husband Chandler Powell and their daughter, Grace as they playfully pretended to hold up a massive rock.
Irwin also posted a video on Sunday, September 14 with her brother and dance partner, Witney Carson where they showed off a fun handshake they cleverly named, the “Croc and Roll”.
The daughter of the late Steve Irwin — the beloved wildlife expert known as the “Crocodile Hunter” — also was spotted with her mom, Terri Irwin. Irwin rose to international fame through his hit TV series The Crocodile Hunter, where his fearless encounters with wildlife and larger-than-life personality turned him into a global icon.
In an interview with People last week, Robert, 21, explained why he decided to join the show: “I wanted to do this because I was inspired by my sister Bindi, who won Dancing with the Stars 10 years ago. I remember coming to every live taping to watch her and thinking, ‘One day I have to do this.’”
He admitted that while he may not be the most skilled dancer, “I’ve got the passion!”
“Dancing with the Stars scares me more than anything else I’ve ever done! I’ve never attempted anything close to dancing. I guess you could say that avoiding a crocodile trying to eat you requires footwork, but it’s different,” he joked.
The Australian conservationist was just 2 years old when his father died in a tragic accident. On Sept. 4, 2006, the beloved wildlife activist was fatally injured when a stingray’s barb pierced his chest while he was filming at Batt Reef off the coast of Australia.
“I think losing someone as important as him at such a young age solidified the idea that life is fragile,” Robert told People. “We don’t know what tomorrow holds, so you have to take calculated risks, you have to have fun, enjoy what you’re doing, and give everything 100 percent.”
