The 57-year-old musician will take over a pop-up space in Trafalgar Square this month with the hope of bringing fans together ahead of England’s group-stage matches.

The football competition will kick off on June 11, and as celebrations get under way James will perform DJ sets at a series of Britpop-themed events at the Lost Oasis venue on June 16, 22 and 26.

James is known for his role in Blur, who were formed in 1988 and are famed for their Britpop sound, and have released chart-topping tracks such as Country House and Beetlebum.

The rock band, from London, also consists of lead singer Damon Albarn, guitarist Graham Coxon and drummer Dave Rowntree and have won many prizes such as five Brit Awards across their decades-long career.

The group have been on hiatus multiple times in recent years, having last returned to the spotlight together in 2023 with the release of their latest album and a series of comeback gigs.

James, who is an avid football fan, is also known for co-writing the 1998 England football anthem Vindaloo sung by Fat Les – which peaked at number two on the UK singles chart.

Speaking about the upcoming gigs, he said: “Football unites us. Add good food, good music and a brilliant setting in the heart of London and you’ve got all the ingredients for a memorable evening.

“See you at Lost Oasis for the perfect aperitif for England’s big games.”

James is among the acts who will provide entertainment at the food and drinks venue this summer, which will also broadcast major events such as the World Cup, Wimbledon and the Formula 1 British Grand Prix.

Tickets for James’ events at Lost Oasis this month will go on sale from 10am on June 6.
