Broken Social Scene And Metric Announce New Albums, Joint Tour With Stars

Canadian indie rock is alive and well: Broken Social Scene and Metric are announcing new albums as well as a joint summer tour with Stars. The bands have shared members over the years, including Emily Haines serving key roles in BSS and Metric. BSS’ Remember The Humans arrives in May, and it’s their first since 2017’s Hug Of Thunder. Metric’s Romanticize The Dive comes in April, following 2023’s Romanticize The Dive.

BSS’ Remember The Humans opening track “Not Around Anymore” serves as the lead single today. Last week, the 2002 track “Anthems For A Seventeen Year-Old Girl” earned them their first gold-certified record in their homeland of Canada.

Remember The Humans was produced by David Newfeld. “There’s a different kind of honesty in this record,” Charles Spearin says. “We’ve had success, we’ve lost friends, we’ve lost parents, we’re at this ‘what happens next?’ stage in life.”

Kevin Drew adds, “In 2026, you’re going to see a lot of resurgence of people going back to the roots of who they are, because things in their lifetime have gotten quite lost. I think we’ve let each other down, and I think it’s art that always tries to prevail, and tries to get us back on track.”

Meanwhile, Metric’s “Victim Of Luck” is out today, about which Emily Hains says:

The song “Victim Of Luck” and really the entire album is about the romance of a less than perfect life. It’s about dropping the mask of self-consciousness and vanity. It was a long journey for me to get out of my own way and I wanted this song to be a rallying cry for that, better late than never. You can be as much a victim of good luck as bad. So when we started out yes we were broke and we were playing to ten people and there was nothing for us to fall back on but we refused to give up, and it’s not as though we’re all superstar billionaires now, but that was never what we were after. It turns out the grind is the thing you wouldn’t trade and the bonds you made can’t be faked. What we wanted is what we have and we’re not victims of anything. We dedicated our lives to each other and it’s the best feeling in the world.

Romanticize The Dive was produced by Gavin Brow with co-producers Jimmy Shaw, Liam O’Neil, and mix engineer John O’Mahoney.
