Days after his December 30, 2022, arrest for the Idaho murders, Bryan Kohberger was placed in a new pod with other men being held at the Latah County Sheriff’s Office jail.
Kohberger “immediately sat down and watched the news about his arrest, watching multiple channels that were covering the story,” one fellow inmate told authories, according to a police report viewed by National Enquirer, adding that he marveled, “Wow, I’m on every channel.”
But soon, another murderer was getting all the attention: Alex Murdaugh. The disgraced South Carolina attorney’s trial for the brutal murders of his wife, Maggie, and 22-year-old son, Paul, began on January 25.

Kohberber “liked to watch CourtTV,” according to an interview with another inmate contained in the police report, “and was very interested in the Murdaugh trial.”
The 30-year-old killer was also reportedly a fan of Nancy Grace. Forensics expert Heather Barnhart — who analyzed his cell phone for police as part of her work at Cellebrite, a digital forensics firm — told Grace in August that she “found a screenshot” of the host on her YouTube show, Crime Stories, on “his device. It seems he would watch your show and it was cached to his phone.”
Eventually, Kohberger, who always changed the channel when his family members were mentioned, “stopped watching the news related to his case almost completely,” the second inmate said, according to the police report.

Murdaugh was found guilty on both counts of murder on both counts on March 2 and is currently serving two life sentences consecutively without the possibility of parole. (He has appealed the conviction, and the state Supreme Court is expected to hear oral arguments this fall, per Fox News.)
Kohberger pleaded guilty to the murders of Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Ethan Chapin, 20, Xana Kernodle, 20 and Madison Mogen, 21. He is now serving four consecutive life sentences at the Idaho Maximum Security Institution.
