Bunnie Xo, wife of Jelly Roll, opened up about the early days of her relationship with the country star. Bunnie, née Alisa DeFord, and Jelly Roll first married in 2016 before renewing their vows in 2023. Their original wedding took place at a courthouse shortly after Jelly Roll proposed during a show in Las Vegas.
Bunnie previously worked as a sex worker, having both escorted and hosted an OnlyFans page. She left the industry in 2023, reflecting on the experience a year later on Facebook, where she wrote, “I was SO scared to let go of that part of my life & leave behind the money I was making — wasn’t sure how I’d make up that part of my business.”
Prior to Jelly Roll’s rise to fame in the music industry, Bunnie was bringing in more money than her partner.
Speaking to Extra on February 16, Bunnie revealed that she continued to perform offline sex work during the earlier days of their marriage.
“[Jelly Roll] would be on tour and I would book dates while he was on the road, and he just always respected what I did as a hustler,” she said, “and I always respected what he did, and we both have never tried to change each other.”
She emphasized that he did not try to change her or her lifestyle, but rather “loved me where I was at and the way that he loved me made me want to change for him,” she continued.
“He knew how important it was to me to make my own money,” said Bunnie of her husband back in 2024.
Bunnie has described her time doing sex work as “a means to an end” as she was in survival mode. However, she also emphasized that she doesn’t want to “talk down” about her experiences in the industry.
Continuing to discuss her marriage to the “Son of a Sinner” singer, she denied the rumors that their relationship is open. Bunnie claimed that her union with Jelly Roll is “free, but not open” and “completely closed.”
She reflected on both her and Jelly Roll’s flawed experiences with love and cheating growing up. Bunnie noted that she has watched preachers and politicians “cheat on their wives” as well as seeing her own father “not be able to have a solid relationship.”
“We were not taught how to love properly,” she admitted.
While their marriage is currently closed, Bunnie and Jelly Roll’s relationship was initially unique in being open.
“We just said, ‘Hey, look, if you’re out on the road and you meet somebody, just tell me about it. I don’t want to find out about it later,” she explained. She clarified that they weren’t “swingers putting pineapples out on your doors” but rather “more fluid.”
In 2024, speaking to PEOPLE magazine, Jelly Roll explained that, “I prioritize family and that’s what anchors me down. My world shrank when I focused on one woman.”
