Canadian comedian Martin Short’s daughter, Katherine, dead at 42

Katherine Short, the daughter of Canadian actor Martin Short and his late wife Nancy, has died at age 42.

“It is with profound grief that we confirm the passing of Katherine Hartley Short,” a representative for the Hamilton-born entertainer confirmed in a statement to CBC News.

“The Short family is devastated by this loss and asks for privacy at this time. Katherine was beloved by all, and will be remembered for the light and joy she brought into the world.”

Martin Short posted a tribute to his daughter on Facebook, saying, “Katherine was the light of our lives full of warmth, kindness, and a joy that touched everyone she met.”

In addition to her father, Katherine is survived by her brothers, Henry and Oliver. Her mother died in 2010 after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

Katherine was reportedly found dead at her Hollywood Hills home on Monday evening. Several media outlets — including TMZ, which was first to report the story — are reporting that Katherine died by suicide, citing the Los Angeles Police Department.

She was not involved in show business but was often seen with her father at entertainment events.

Short had been scheduled to perform a live two-man comedy show with his Only Murders in the Building co-star Steve Martin in Milwaukee on Friday. That performance, along with two shows set for Minneapolis on Saturday, have been postponed, according to the venues.
