On Tuesday, Sept. 23, New York rapper Cardi B took over a Houston-area Walmart to promote her new rap album. Not since former Russian President Boris Yeltsin visited a Houston area grocery store in 1989 (which may or may not have led to the fall of the USSR) have we had a more significant figure who has been mesmerized by the wonders of a Texas supermarket.
In celebration of her new project “Am I the Drama?”, Cardi B made an appearance at a Cypress Walmart where over 1000 fans stood outside in the Texas heat for a chance to take a picture with her. Crowds cheered when Cardi arrived, accompanied by the Cy-Fair Fire Department and Harris County deputies. The event allowed Cardi to meet with fans who had purchased a pre-signed copy of her latest album and pose for a photo-op.
The pop-up also granted Cardi the rare chance to venture into the giant warehouse store that sells virtually everything, and the “Bodak Yellow” rapper could not believe what she saw.
“Ooh, Walmart is big,” she marveled walking through the giant-sized store flanked by security. “You know there’s no Walmart in New York. This is amazing.”
However, after beginning to greet fans while strolling down the extremely long aisles of the Walmart Supercenter, Cardi eventually grew tired of all the walking. (We don’t really think about how large these stores actually are).
“Damn, this s- far, where is it at?” Cardi huffed. “Goddamn this s- is big. What is this? A factory?”
There are, in fact, Walmarts in New York City. But the Big Apple has no proper Walmart Supercenters, the giant-sized warehouse stores that are super common in Texas and around other parts of the country. Several comments on Cardi’s TikTok point out that there’s even a Walmart in her hometown in the Bronx, but it’s nothing like the store Cardi visited in Cypress. Other fans were just amused by the entire situation.
“‘What is this a factory’ had me rolling on the floor,” one commenter wrote.
“Walmart can be intimidating for people that have NEVER been to one before,” another acknowledged.
“This was me when I went to my first Walmart,” chimed in another chimed.
The fan experience at the album release pop-up wasn’t without issue. Temperatures reached 90 degrees during the event, resulting in several medical emergencies among fans who had waited in line for hours. A heat warning was also issued for attendees by the Cy-Fair Fire Department. Despite the heat, fans toughed it out as several hundreds of them were able to meet and take a pic with the rap star.
Now Cardi B just needs to be taken to a Buc-ee’s so her mind can truly be blown by the wonders provided by the Texas brand’s iconic beaver.
