Meghan Markle hinted at plans to renew her vows with Prince Harry during their Australia tour last month, and the rumour mill now suggests there could be much more to it than first thought.
Sources claim the Duchess of Sussex, 44, is considering filming the vow renewal as part of a new reality-style TV show.
The proposed show would give fans an intimate look at Meghan’s life in Montecito, alongside Harry and their children Archie, seven, and Lilibet, four.
However, an insider has warned that the late Queen Elizabeth II would have been horrified by the idea, particularly after she regretted allowing her own family to be filmed.
“Elizabeth spent years truly regretting the decision to let cameras into royal life in the first place because she believed it blurred the line between monarchy and celebrity,” the source told Radar Online.
“The thought of Meghan turning her marriage into reality television would have had her cartwheeling in her tomb.”
The Royal Family BBC documentary first aired in 1969, giving viewers an unprecedented look into palace life behind closed doors.
It included footage of the royals doing everyday things, such as gathering for a barbecue, watching TV, and spending Christmas together at Sandringham.
Despite its popularity at the time, the Queen eventually banned the footage from being shown on TV after deciding it revealed too much about their private lives.
To this day, the footage is not shown on mainstream TV or streaming platforms.
“The Queen came to believe the cameras changed everything,” the source continued.
“She felt the monarchy lost some of its mystique and became vulnerable to tabloid obsession and celebrity culture.
“Meghan’s reported plans represent exactly the kind of thing she feared royal life would eventually become.”
Meghan hinted at renewing her and Prince Harry’s vows during a surprise appearance on Get Down With Sean and Marley, hosted by Australian YouTubers Sean Skeels and Marley Whatarau.
The episode, which was filmed while Meghan was Down Under last month, showed the duo presenting her with a hamper full of distinctly Aussie gifts, including Allen’s Minties and cans of Tooheys.
Meghan was also given a pair of Aussie Bum “budgie smugglers” for Prince Harry.
“That’s going to be for my husband. I just have a feeling,” the Duchess laughed as Sean presented her with the shorts.
“For the love of my life,” she joked. “We might renew our vows with him wearing these.”
