Celebrity Traitors star joins James McAvoy in new thrillerBBC
The Celebrity Traitors’ fan favourite Mark Bonnar, an already recognisable face on TV thanks to roles in hit UK shows like Line of Duty and Catastrophe, and Doctor Who’s Christopher Eccleston have joined James McAvoy in upcoming Sky drama Meantime.
Adapted from comedian Frankie Boyle’s novel, the Glasgow-set “comic crime thriller” follows McAvoy as Felix McAveety, a full-time addict whose best friend is found murdered in a park.
Per the synopsis, the show follows as Felix is branded “the police’s most convenient suspect” in the murder case. “In a fog of intoxication and paranoia, Felix sets out to clear his name, enlisting the help of an ageing former Detective Inspector turned crime novelist and a chaotic friend,” it continues.

Though perhaps best known as the Ninth Doctor, Eccleston has had starring turns in a variety of TV series and films like The A Word, Safe House, True Detective, The Young Woman and the Sea, Thor: The Dark World, and a host of on stage theatrical performances.
The cast for the upcoming drama also includes Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange, Marco Polo), as well as Anatomy of a Scandal star Josette Simon and Brian and Charles’ Jamie Michie.
Boyle, who wrote the novel in 2022, is also a familiar face on TV screens through shows like Never Mind the Buzzcocks and Mock the Week. He is adapting the novel alongside Neil Webster for Happy Tramp North and Expectation, in association with Sky Studios.
The series is produced by Eric Coulter, with executive producers including Boyle and Webster for Happy Tramp North, Nerys Evans for Expectation, and Alex Moody for Sky, as well as McAvoy and director Jon S Baird.

The project marks Sky’s second foray into adapting literary fiction with a darkly comedic edge, following its recent adaptation of Nick Cave’s novel The Death of Bunny Munro, which starred Matt Smith in the lead role.
Meantime is directed by Baird, whose credits include the acclaimed Filth, which also starred McAvoy and is a similarly comedic (though less laugh-out-loud and more wince-and-groan) Scottish crime story.
A release date for Meantime has yet to be confirmed.
