Beloved actor Chadwick Boseman is set to receive a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In 2020, Boseman passed away at 43, following a private battle with colon cancer.
“Black Panther” director Ryan Coogler and actress Viola Davis, who starred alongside Boseman in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” are set to speak at the event, which will take place on Nov. 20. His widow, Simone Ledward-Boseman, will accept the award on his behalf.
“The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is deeply honored to celebrate Chadwick Boseman’s extraordinary legacy with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” Ana Martinez, Hollywood Walk of Fame producer, said in a statement obtained by Billboard. “His powerful performances and enduring impact both on and off screen continue to inspire generations around the world.”
Boseman’s breakthrough role came in 2013’s “42,” playing baseball legend Jackie Robinson.
However, it was his role as T’Challa, the King of Wakanda, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s “Black Panther” that helped him reach international fame. He played the role from 2016 to 2019.
His final movie films were “Da 5 Bloods” and “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” which earned him a Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Award for Best Actor. The movie then earned him a posthumous Oscar nomination in the same category.
Boseman’s star will be located at 6904 Hollywood Blvd., in front of the Hollywood Experience. Fans unable to make it to the ceremony can watch online here.
