- It’s the latest offering from Charli xcx’s soundtrack for Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights.
- Charli xcx and the Velvet Underground’s John Cale have collaborated on a new song.
Out now, “House” appears on the BRAT artist’s soundtrack for Emerald Fennell’s forthcoming film adaptation of Wuthering Heights. The film, which stars Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, premieres in theatres on February 13th, 2026.
In a statement, Charli xcx said she decided to reach out to Cale about collaborating after watching Todd Haynes’ 2021 documentary on the Velvet Underground. She said she took inspiration for her Wuthering Heights soundtrack from Cale’s requirement that the Velvet Underground’s music be “elegant and brutal.”
“When the summer ended I was still ruminating on John’s words,” she explained. “So I decided to reach out to him to get his opinion on the songs that his phrase had so deeply inspired, but also to see whether he might want to collaborate on any.”
She continued: “We got connected, we spoke on the phone and wow…that voice, so elegant, so brutal. I sent him some songs and we started talking specifically about ‘House.’ We spoke about the idea of a poem. He recorded something and sent it to me. Something that only John could do.”
“House” is Charli xcx’s first new release since sharing the BRAT remix album, Brat and it’s completely different but also still brat, in October 2024. Wuthering Heights is just one of many upcoming films the artist has either acted in, made music for or produced. These include period fantasy 100 Nights of Hero; Gregg Araki’s I Want Your Sex; action comedy Sacrifice with Yung Lean; and a yet-to-be-titled new film from Audition director Takashi Miike.
The new track also arrives alongside a music video directed by Mitch Ryan and starring Charli xcx, Cale and a raven. Watch it below.
