Veteran entertainer and activist, Charly Boy, has warned that Nigeria could face a major crisis if celebrities continue to remain silent on issues affecting ordinary citizens.
Speaking recently, Charly Boy said musicians, actors and other public figures have a responsibility to use their platforms to address societal challenges, arguing that many celebrities wield more influence than politicians.
According to him, entertainers can shape public discourse through their music and public engagements and should not shy away from speaking on issues affecting their communities.
“They can do more. They have larger platforms than politicians. It won’t hurt them to speak up or make music that reflects reality,” he said.
The activist expressed concern over the country’s worsening insecurity and social challenges, warning that failure to confront the problems could have grave consequences.
“It’s going to explode in our faces,” he warned.
Charly Boy also blamed economic hardship and the erosion of family values for some of Nigeria’s growing social problems, saying financial pressures have pushed some families into difficult situations.
He noted that traditional parenting methods may no longer be effective in raising today’s generation, adding that many young people now face realities that differ significantly from those of previous generations.
Despite his concerns, the entertainer said he remains optimistic about Nigeria’s future, pointing to young Nigerians who are creating opportunities for themselves and using their voices to demand change.
He also praised a new generation of activists and social commentators who are increasingly speaking out on national issues.
