Drew Green has made his mark in Nashville as a songwriter, but with his debut full-length album ‘What You’re Looking For,’ the McMinnville, Tennessee native steps into the spotlight as a recording artist ready to tell his own story. The 18-track project, released via RECORDS Nashville, balances swagger, vulnerability and emotional grit — a reflection of Green’s journey from small-town beginnings to the heart of country music.

From Tree Farm to Music City

Green’s roots run deep in Tennessee, where he grew up on a tree farm listening to classic country staples like Sammy Kershaw and Alan Jackson. In his teenage years, his listening expanded to hip-hop, R&B, and pop — artists like Usher, Craig David, Matchbox Twenty and Dr. Dre widened his palette. This blend of influences now fuels his sound, where modern country production meets sharp hooks and unflinching lyrics.

After stints in bands through high school and college, Green relocated to Nashville. By day, he worked at a bank; by night, he performed as part of the house band at Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge. That grind eventually paid off when Florida Georgia Line cut ‘Colorado,’ which Green co-wrote with HARDY and Hunter Phelps. The momentum led to deals with Cornman Music, Villa40/Sony Music Nashville, and eventually RECORDS Nashville. Along the way, streaming hits like ‘She Got That,’ ‘Little More Be Alright’ and ‘Good Ol’ Man’ helped establish him as more than just a behind-the-scenes writer.

The Album

Green calls ‘What You’re Looking For’ the story he’s been waiting to tell. It’s a wide-ranging project that highlights his versatility, blending Southern swagger with moments of honesty and tenderness.

  • Lie Together — A swaggering, radio-ready focus track that mixes country grit with a polished groove.
  • Ammo — One of the album’s most emotionally raw moments, capturing the ache of heartbreak with vivid storytelling.
  • Colorado (feat. HARDY) — A nod to the song that opened doors for Green, reimagined with the same co-writer who helped create it.
  • Back On It (feat. 501 Bryze) — A collaboration that fuses modern hip-hop energy with Green’s country roots, showing his genre-blending instincts.
  • Good Ol’ Man — Already a fan favourite, this track reflects on fatherhood, responsibility and striving to grow into the kind of man worth looking up to. Its honesty has resonated deeply with listeners and critics alike.

Throughout the record, Green toggles between anthems built for a Friday night and songs written for the quiet moments after heartbreak. The diversity of the tracklist underscores his broad influences while still holding true to a country core.

A Defining Statement

For Green, ‘What You’re Looking For’ represents both a personal milestone and a tribute. The album arrived in the same week that he made his Grand Ole Opry debut on September 27, fulfilling a long-held dream. The moment carries extra weight following the recent passing of GRAMMY-winning songwriter Brett James, who gave Green his first publishing deal in Nashville.

“I’m incredibly excited to be releasing my debut album and making my Opry debut,” Green shared. “But given Brett’s passing last week, the release and the debut at such an iconic venue has taken on a whole new meaning. Brett gave me my first deal in town. He was one of the first people to believe in me. My hope is that, in some small way, this album and the Opry debut honor him and the incredible mark he made on our industry.”

Country Music in Context

Green’s debut comes at a time when country music is increasingly defined by blurred boundaries. Artists like HARDY, Jelly Roll, and Morgan Wallen have fused country with hip-hop and rock influences, reshaping the genre’s mainstream. ‘What You’re Looking’ For sits comfortably in that landscape, yet what sets Green apart is his ability to infuse genre-bending production with heartfelt lyricism rooted in classic storytelling traditions.

With more than 400 million career streams already to his name, Drew Green is no newcomer. But ‘What You’re Looking For’ plants a flag in new territory: it’s less about proving he belongs and more about showing who he really is. The highs, heartbreaks, and grit of his journey all come together in an album that feels like both a debut and a culmination.

‘What You’re Looking For’ is available now on all streaming platforms.
