Cheryl Hines revealed her account of events following gunfire at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
The spouse of Robert F Kennedy Jr. took to her Instagram Story to describe the frightening incident shortly after departing the venue. On April 25, during the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner, the suspected gunman breached a security checkpoint and began shooting.
In her Instagram post following the incident, Cheryl stated, “Okay, so I just got back from the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. That was a crazy moment in time.
“So we were there, and we heard shots, everybody got under the tables, nobody knew what was going on, and then Bobby’s security detail surrounded us, and took us, had to lift me over chairs, because I’m in heels, and a gown,” she explained. “They took us through all of the back ways, and we got in the car and left,” reports Irish Star.
Subsequently, she provided an additional update stating, “Thank you for everyone reaching out asking if we’re okay, and we are okay. I’m in my pajamas now watching the news break just like you guys, but everybody stay safe.”
Video footage circulating online showed RFK Jr. being escorted to safety while his wife Cheryl was left behind, prompting a wave of reactions from X users. “Top 10 highlights from the staged active shooter influencer activation for Trump’s new ballroom: Cheryl being left behind like a Curb Your Enthusiasm episode,” one user quipped.
Another commenter defended the actions as routine procedure, noting, “I wanna s–t on RFK too, but this is standard secret service protocol, you scoop up your protectee, and nobody else matters.”
As Secretary of Health and Human Services and a key member of Trump’s cabinet, RFK Jr. is entitled to the highest level of Secret Service protection — a privilege that, unfortunately, does not extend to his wife.
A California man allegedly carrying “knives and guns” was swiftly detained after breaching security at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Authorities confirmed that no serious injuries were reported and that the suspect remains in custody.
Trump seized on the incident to champion his plans for a new White House ballroom, declaring, “It’s actually a larger room, and it’s much more secure. It’s drone proof, it’s bulletproof glass – we need the ballroom.”
