Just a few months ago, Cole Escola mentioned on Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast that they wanted Miss Piggy to play Mary Todd Lincoln in a movie adaptation of Oh, Mary!, and it seems like they’re getting their wish — in part, at least.
On the most recent episode of Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers’s Las Culturistas podcast, Jennifer Lawrence stopped by to talk about her Hollywood comeback, which includes her latest critically acclaimed movie, Die My Love, and her plans for the future. One plan she mentioned was producing a new film centered on Miss Piggy with Emma Stone, which Escola is set to write.
“I don’t know if I can announce this, but I’m just going to. Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie and Cole [Escola] is writing it,” Lawrence said, to the shock and awe of the hosts. She kept the details of the project under wraps and didn’t reveal any major plot details or how far along they are in filming.
When Lawrence was asked if she and Stone planned to be in the movie, she said, “I feel like we have to.”
At present, Miss Piggy is a bit busy with her debut stint on Broadway in the Rob Lake Magic With Special Guests The Muppets. (Would they have to work around her schedule?)
There hasn’t been any details on whether or not this project could be the official Oh, Mary! movie. Lawrence did mention on Las Culturistas that she was actually set to play Mary in Escola’s Tony-winning Broadway show, but she couldn’t make it work logistically.
Lawrence’s busy schedule has prevented her from pursuing several opportunities, even getting to star in a movie with Stone, a close friend of hers. Yang and Rogers asked if the rumors of the two friends starring in a potential Death Becomes Her reboot was real, to which the actress replied, “No, that was just like fan casting. It would be great. I would love to. I mean, I would be there.”
