How did we end up on a virtual birdwatching adventure with country music’s Briley King? It all started with an interview after Briley, who is married to singer and blues rock guitarist Marcus King, went viral for her cover of “The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia.” After the overwhelming response to her impromptu performance, captured on video backstage during the Marcus King Band Family Reunion Festival, her professional recording of the song with the band was released on October 1.
During our chat, Briley told us this about her home life with Marcus in Tennessee:
“Our typical day starts in the morning; we sit on the porch together—we’re fortunate enough to have an amazing porch with a Carolina blue ceiling and rocking chairs and fans—and we sit out there and he has his morning coffee, I have my morning Mini Coke, and I talk his ear off and pull out my binoculars and we birdwatch together for several hours.”
She also mentioned their pets: three dogs, two cats, and three pigeons!
Well, we had to see for ourselves, so Briley sent us a video in which she told us all about her custom birdseed blend, showed us her bluebird boxes and multiple hummingbird feeders, and revealed a whole lot of birding tips. She also introduced us to one of her pigeons, Bunny, and told us about her other two—Smoothie King and Burger King.
We posted it on Country Living’s TikTok and Instagram, and the verdict was resounding: Briley is not only a rising voice in country music—she’s also tremendously entertaining!
It racked up well over half a million views on Instagram and TikTok combined, and got tons of comments. Here are a few of our favorites:
