Da Brat remained tight-lipped about her sexuality for years—until she met her wife, Jesseca ‘Judy’ Dupart.
In a new conversation with the podcast, Speak On It, Da Brat explained that she “was in the closet forever.”
“Like we didn’t tell shit,” she said around the 7:50 minute mark of the video below. “We ain’t supposed to talk about shit. You can keep that s**t to your mother f**kingself.”
Da Brat and Dupart married in 2022 after dating for five years. The couple shares a three-year-old son, True Legend, who was born via IVF.
In February, the “Funkdafied” rapper opened up about being hesitant to come out as queer because of her career.
“That s**t wasn’t cool back in the day,” she said on Angie Martinez’s IRL podcast. “It was against the rules back in the day for a female artist.”
Da Brat said that she initially “never cared” about disclosing her sexuality. However, meeting Dupart changed Da Brat’s mind.
“I never really met anybody that made me want to be out loud…I thought I was in love a few times, but apparently not,” she continued. “Not until I met this one, ‘cause then I felt some feelings and some things that I had never felt before.
“And it made me want to be like, ‘ f**k everybody. You’re going to see this love. You’re going to see how happy I am.’”
