Watch Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas’ ‘Camp Rock’ surprise reunion

On opening night of the Jonas Brothers’ tour, the band brought out four surprise guests, including former tourmate Demi Lovato.

  • Demi Lovato is set to perform in Columbus for the first time in two years on her “It’s Not That Deep” tour.
  • The tour follows the release of her ninth studio album, which marks a shift to an electropop sound.
  • The concert setlist is expected to feature new dance tracks as well as popular older hits.

It’s been two years since Demi Lovato’s last headlining performance in Columbus, and local Lovatics are ready for a reunion. The “Confident” singer raised some alarm bells when she canceled the first five dates of her “It’s Not That Deep” tour in February, citing her health as the reason. However, since kicking the tour off in Washington DC, on April 13, the pop star appears happy, healthy and ready to show her fans a great time.

The show starts at 8 p.m. April 27 at Nationwide Arena, with special guest ADÉLA taking the stage ahead of the main event.

A life in the limelight

At only 15 years old, Lovato got her start playing Mitchie Torres alongside The Jonas Brothers in Disney’s “Camp Rock,” paving the way for a promising music career. Her 2008 debut single, “This Is Me” rose to No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100, and just a year later, her second album, “Here We Go Again,” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

Since then, the singer has earned a Grammy nomination for her fifth studio album, “Confident,” and she was named one of Time’s Most Influential People of 2017.

Throughout her career, Lovato hasn’t shied away from getting vulnerable with fans. She’s been vocal about her struggles with mental health and addiction, often referencing both in her music with releases like “Sober,” “Anyone” and “Dancing with the Devil.”

Her ninth studio album, “It’s Not That Deep,” is a noticeable departure from the pop-punk sound and heavier subject matter of her 2022 album. The mantra for this chapter seems to be “heavy on the bass, light on the feels,” and fans and critics alike appear to welcome the tonal shift.

Introducing the electropop era

Back on the road after a three-year break from touring, Lovato is ready to bring her critically acclaimed new songs to the stage. Her latest dance-pop bangers like “Fast,” “Here All Night” and “Kiss” are sure to feature prominently on the setlist, so bring your dance shoes – this isn’t the kind of show you’ll want to sit through.

The singer also recently debuted her first live performance of “Low Rise Jeans,” a brand-new track featured on the “It’s Not That Deep” deluxe edition, so that’s likely to make an appearance as well.

Fans can also expect to hear the familiar pop tracks and emotional ballads they know and love, including “Sorry Not Sorry,” “Cool for the Summer,” “Tell Me You Love Me,” and “Skyscraper.” And based on what we’ve seen from previous stops on the tour thus far, a surprise song from one of her previous eras will likely make its way into the mix.

More than a tour

It might not be “that deep,” but Lovato’s new album is a significant next step in her musical career. The songs celebrate taking control, releasing inhibitions and embracing joy, and this tour is an opportunity for fans to join her in that celebration.
