A year before her death, Kearon starred in the American comedy Summer Camp. Directed by Castille Landon, the movie stars familiar favorites like Kathy Bates, Alfre Woodard, Beverly D’Angelo, Nicole Richie, Josh Peck, Betsy Sodaro, Dennis Haysbert, and Eugene Levy.
The movie focuses on three longtime friends since childhood, Nora, Ginny (Bates), and Mary (Woodard). Every year without fail, they spend the summer together on planned vacations to a sleepaway camp.
Now that they are older and live different lives, the chances of getting together are slim. So when the opportunity arises to spend the summer together, they jump at the opportunity. The comedy movie is full of old rivals, old crushes turning into possible romances, and friends reconnecting.
Summer Camp released in theaters on May 31, 2024, and received less than favorable reviews. It received a low 8% score on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 4.6 rating from IMDb. Many critics called it a flop that didn’t capture enough interest to make it worthwhile.
“Pack it in — this lame comedy is about as fun as summer school,” said one critic.
“While there are pops of piquancy in Landon’s script, her direction and the performances (with the exception of Woodard) fail to inspire much more than a shrug. Summer Camp is only mildly interesting as another entry in the Keaton-verse,” said another.
Before Summer Camp, Keaton also starred in Arthur’s Whisky the same year. She played the role of Linda in the British Comedy about three women given an elixir for eternal youth in a modern world.
Diane Keaton’s Cause of Death Unknown
Details on Keaton’s cause of death are unclear. Many outlets reported on her declining health in recent months, with some close friends noting her extreme weight loss. For now, her family has asked for privacy since the news of her death.
TMZ obtained the 911 call during the incident, with the dispatcher saying, “Rescue 19, person down.”
Details on her medical state during the call are also unknown, with the actor later being transported to a local hospital by the Los Angeles Fire Department.
