Dick Van Dyke might have a 45-year age gap with his wife, but their love for each other defies age.
The Mary Poppins star surprised his wife, Arlene, at her 54th birthday party at Aviator Nation Dreamland in Malibu, California.
Dick hugged his wife and stared at her lovingly in a video posted on Instagram. The video showed Dick, who is 99 and still going to the gym in good health, in the middle of singing Happy Birthday to Arlene before the couple shared a sweet kiss.
The video then cut to Dick sitting in a chair near Arlene with a microphone. “We’ve been married 13 years,” he said. “In two and a half months, I’m gonna be 100 years old.”
The actor playfully added, “I hope.”
He then launched into the story of how he and Arlene met. “I’ve never seen a more beautiful woman in my life than this one,” Dick said.
“I never walked up to a strange woman in my life, and I was backstage at the Emmys, I guess,” he was cut off by Arlene, correcting him that they met at the SAG Awards.
He then added, “I was just waiting to go on. She walked by and, without even thinking, I jumped up and said, ‘Hi, I’m Dick.’ And I found out she was a makeup lady, hired her, and now we’ve been married 13 years, and I couldn’t be happier. Happy birthday, Sweetheart.”

A cake was then brought out, and Dick sang his wife Happy Birthday again before she blew out the candles and clapped.
Arlene and Dick first met in 2006. Then in 2012, the couple got married.
Earlier this year, Dick spoke to People and admitted that even with their 45-year age gap, they “get along so well.”
“Everybody said it wouldn’t work,” he added.
