Dolly Parton turned 80 on Monday and released a new version of a 1977 track, featuring Miley Cyrus, Lainey Wilson, Queen Latifah, and Reba McEntire.
On Monday, January 19, Dolly Parton turned 80 and gave the world a gift to celebrate, releasing a new version of her 1977 single, “Light of a Clear Blue Morning.” This version of the song features vocals from Parton’s goddaughter Miley Cyrus, as well as fellow celebrity singers Lainey Wilson, Queen Latifah, and Reba McEntire. Additionally, it features The Christ Church Choir and composer and producer David Foster on piano.
The song was originally written and recorded 50 years ago “during a period of personal transition and renewed optimism,” and has endured as “one of Dolly’s most inspirational works,” according to a post on her website. The new version “reimagines the song with a message of spreading love and hope.”
In true Dolly fashion, proceeds from the song and the accompanying music video will be donated to benefit pediatric cancer research at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt in Nashville. It’s fitting that the release gives back to her home state, given that the state of Tennessee—which is also home to her Dollywood theme park—declared January 19, 2026, as Dolly Parton Day.
“Dolly Parton’s life and career is woven into Tennessee’s music, culture, and rich history,” said Governor Bill Lee as part of his proclamation. “Her talent and generosity have made a lasting impact on the world, and it is fitting that we honor her 80th birthday by celebrating her remarkable legacy and dedication to the Volunteer State.”
Fans breathed a sigh of relief at the announcement, given that the star had cancelled a series of concerts in December out of an abundance of caution over health concerns.
“I ain’t dead yet!” Dolly Parton teased fans on social media with a video assuring everyone that she was well on the mend.
