Donald Trump has paid a deeply personal tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II, honouring Britain’s longest-serving monarch in a striking and symbolic way at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.
The 79-year-old US President, who was known to have great admiration for the Queen during her lifetime, has installed a portrait of Her late Majesty in a position of prominence at the exclusive Palm Beach property.
In an Express exclusive, it can be revealed that the portrait now takes pride of place in Mar-a-Lago’s grand dining room, and the Queen’s image stands alone with none others up.
The gesture underlines Trump’s longstanding respect for the monarch, as well as his continued warm relationship with the Royal Family, including King Charles III and Prince William.
Speaking to the Express, the publisher of the portrait, available through www.queenportrait.com, said Trump was keen to honour Queen Elizabeth in a meaningful and lasting way.
“Donald Trump loved the Queen and admired her enormously,” the publisher said. “He wanted to honour her properly, which is why he made the decision for her portrait to be the only one displayed in the dining room.”
The dining room is one of the most significant spaces at Mar-a-Lago, regularly used to host world leaders, dignitaries and high-profile guests.
“It’s a touching gesture,” the publisher added. “World leaders are hosted in that very room, so in a sense Queen Elizabeth is still meeting heads of state.”
The story behind how the portrait came into Trump’s possession is equally personal. According to the publisher, Melania Trump had previously commissioned the artist, Basia, to paint a portrait of the couple’s son, Barron, when he was a baby at Mar-a-Lago.
Basia later met Trump at his Palm Beach golf course and gifted him a reproduction of the Queen’s portrait, which is now available for purchase online. At the time, Trump passed the artwork to a Secret Service agent for safekeeping. It was later professionally framed and installed in the dining room, where it remains the sole artwork on display.
The portrait holds particular historical significance, as it was the final time Queen Elizabeth II sat for a painted portrait before her death.
“Trump was especially impressed by the fact that it was painted from real life, not taken from a photograph,” the source said. “His affection for the Queen actually began with his mother, who loved her deeply.”
The tribute stands as a quiet but powerful mark of respect from a former President to a monarch he clearly held in high regard.
