The Reading Royals have made two moves prior to tonight’s game vs Norfolk Admirals, including their third trade of the week.
Vinnie Purpura Traded To Savannah
The Reading Royals have traded goaltender Vinnie Purpura to the Savannah Ghost Pirates in exchange for future considerations. Purpura, 27, joins Savannah after putting up a 14-6-5 record with a 2.32 GAA and .927SV% in 27 games with Reading. In his only Kelly Cup Playoff game, which came last season, he stopped 33 of 36 shots in Game 3 of the North Division Semi-Finals. He began his pro career with the Adirondack Thunder, where he went 17-4-4 with a 2.87 GAA, .907SV%, and one shutout in 29 games.
Hunter Johannes Assigned To Reading
Johannes, 27, has been assigned to the Royals by the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. In 17 games this season with the Savannah Ghost Pirates, he put up a goal and seven assists for eight points as he was under contract with the Charlotte Checkers. It is unclear if there was a separate trade that sent him from Charlotte to Lehigh Valley.
The Eden Prairie, Minnesota, native has spent the majority of his career in the AHL playing with the Grand Rapids Griffins. In 57 games with Grand Rapids, he had two goals and two assists for four points, and played in one game with the team during the 2024 Calder Cup Playoffs. Johannes also saw four games last season with the Toledo Walleye, where he had two goals and three assists for five points.
