Home-brew Hop-Off

Little Rock’s Historic Arkansas Museum, 200 E. Third St., hosts its fifth Hop-Off during Second Friday Art Night, 5-8 p.m. Friday. The competition for the best historic home-brew uses historical prompts and recipes as inspiration; adult visitors can sample the beers and vote for a People’s Choice Award while a panel of beer enthusiasts chooses the winner of the Taster’s Choice Award. Musician Brian Adams performs in the Balcony Café; there will be a sack race on the lawn for prizes. Admission is free. Call (501) 324-9351.

Amboy Fest

North Little Rock’s Amboy Neighborhood brings together neighbors, Burns Park visitors, Camp Robinson military, the North Little Rock School District and the North Little Rock Fire Department to help identify the neighborhood’s future needs with Amboy Fest, 10:30 a.m. Saturday at MacArthur and Military drives, North Little Rock. The festival will feature food trucks, a flea market at the Amboy Methodist Church, prizes and giveaways and the opportunity to adopt animals from the North Little Rock Animal Shelter and to meet North Little Rock Mayor Terry Hartwick and city council members. The neighborhood has been rebuilding in the wake of the March 31, 2023, tornado. Admission is free. Call (501) 350-7649 or email [email protected].

Theater serves ‘Cake’

Argenta Contemporary Theatre stages “The Cake” by Bekah Brunstetter, 7 p.m. Thursday and July 16-24, 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday and July 18 and 25, 2 p.m. Sunday and July 19 and 26 in the Sharon Heflin Black Box at the theater’s Act II space, 315 Main St., North Little Rock. The play includes adult themes and language and is recommended for mature audiences. Tickets are $40 and $60 ($10 off for Thursday’s preview performance), via the website; rush tickets, $25, are available in person at the box office beginning one hour before each performance, subject to availability.

Young ‘Cinderella’

Benton’s Young Players stage “Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella: Youth Edition” (music by Richard Rodgers, book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, adapted by Tom Briggs), 7 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and July 16-18 and 2 p.m. Sunday and July 19 at the Royal Theatre, 111 S. Market St., Benton. The Magic Cast performs this weekend; the Castle Cast the following weekend.

Sponsor is Everett Buick, GMC. Tickets in advance (via the website) are $20; $15 for senior citizens 60-plus, college students and members of the military; $10 for students in grade 12 and younger, plus additional fees. Tickets are $2 more at the door.

In conjunction with the production: “A Royal Tea Party!,” 2 p.m. Saturday in the gym of the Benton First United Methodist Church, 200 N. Market St., Benton (enter on West Sevier Street.). “Bring your favorite prince or princess and enjoy a magical afternoon of tea, cookies, sweet treats and royal snacks. Guests will have opportunities for photos, to meet fun guests, and make plenty of royalty-worthy memories. Fancy clothes or costumes are encouraged to make the day even more special. Tickets are $20 plus fees; proceeds support the Royal Theatre’s building fund.

Freedom to publish

Wade Hudson, author and the president and CEO of Just Us Books Inc., an independent publisher of books for children and young adults, engages in a virtual conversation with Patrick M. Oliver, founder and CEO of Say It Loud! Readers and Writers LLC, on the topic of “Freedom to Create and Publish,” 11 a.m. Saturday at the Rock It! Lab, 120 River Market Ave., Little Rock. Sensory Sunday

The Museum of Discovery, 500 President Clinton Ave., Little Rock, holds its monthly “Extra Special Sensory Sunday,” in partnership with the Tyler Dannaway Foundation, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday.

Hippos and Fish Therapy Services and Independent Case Management will take part in “a morning of inclusive activities catered toward our museum friends with sensory needs,” according to a news release. The foundation will also have an interactive digging activity and giveaway “for 25 special guests.”

The foundation was established in 2018 to support children with autism, special needs and communication challenges while providing resources, opportunities and encouragement for children to learn, grow, communicate and thrive.

‘Bluey’ coming back

The touring production “Bluey’s Big Play — The Stage Show” returns to Little Rock’s Robinson Center Performance Hall, 426 W. Markham St. at Broadway, 6:30 p.m. Sept. 10. Tickets — $23-$89; — go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at the Robinson Center box office and online, via Celebrity Attractions website or Ticketmaster, or by phone — call (501) 244-8800. A $55 VIP ticket, available only through Ticketmaster, includes the opportunity to buy an additional VIP Meet and Greet Experience that includes an exclusive lanyard, a souvenir gift (for children only) and a post-show Meet & Greet photo opportunity with Bluey. Children must be accompanied by at least one adult.
