Austin Gilbert, a Eugene local, is competing on season 28 of “The Voice,” a reality singing competition on NBC which premiered Sept. 21.
“The Voice” is best known for its blind auditions, a stage of the show where judges decide if contestants will be chosen based on their voice alone.
Auditioners only advance if a judge turns their chair around to indicate they want the voice they hear to be on their team. Each person then competes by singing for a prize of $100,000 and a recording contract with Universal Music Group.
Gilbert, 25, was chosen to compete on “The Voice” following his blind audition on Sept. 30. His performance of Luke Combs’ “The Kind of Love We Make” convinced two out of the four judges to turn their chairs.
Here’s what to know about Gilbert and his time on the show so far.
“The Voice” Season 28 judges include Reba McEntire, Niall Horan, Snoop Dogg and Michael Bublé.

Who is Austin Gilbert?
Austin Gilbert is an Army veteran and a country music singer who grew up in the Salem area. Before going on “The Voice,” Gilbert built up a local following performing at venues around Eugene and Springfield.
During Gilbert’s blind audition on “The Voice,” his song turned the chairs of judges Horan and Bublé. Gilbert spoke to each of the four judges — bowing down to McEntire and connecting with Snoop Dog through his uncle’s restaurant — before ultimately choosing Bublé as his coach.
On episode 9 of the show, which aired Oct. 13, Gilbert’s battle with another contestant led to him being stolen by McEntire and placed on “Team Reba.”
