Stranger Things star and musician Finn Wolfhard is adapting the acclaimed 2016 Replacements biography Trouble Boys into a feature film, SPIN can confirm. Wolfhard has been working for several months with his father Eric and Neighborhood Watch producer Rich Peete to co-write a screenplay based on the book, which was written by journalist Bob Mehr.
In it, Mehr chronicles the uniquely American rise, fall and rebirth of the Minnesota-reared Replacements, who unexpectedly rose to the top of the Reagan-era rock underground before signing to major label Sire and then dissolving in acrimony in 1991. The Paul Westerberg-led group reunited for a hugely successful tour in 2013 but has been inactive for the past decade.

“Paul Westerberg is such an amazing songwriter who could write heavy rock songs and also really sweet, vulnerable, personal songs,” Wolfhard tells SPIN.
A musician since childhood whose latest album, Happy Birthday, was released in June by AWAL, Wolfhard is gearing up for the fifth and final season of Netflix’s Stranger Things, which premieres Nov. 26. Beforehand, he’s on tour in Europe through Oct. 18 in London in support of Happy Birthday.
Wolfhard previously worked with Peete on the movie The Legend of Ochi, released in April by A24.
