Sarah Ferguson is hands down one of the most scandalous members of the royal family.
But in the new ITV miniseries The Lady, streaming locally on BINGE from February 23, it’s not her antics that are put under the microscope but that of her former royal aide, Jane Andrews.
Based on true events, the partly fictionalised drama follows the rags to riches story of Jane (played by Mia McKenna Bruce), a working class girl who responded to an anonymous job ad in a magazine called The Lady.
Little did she know that the job she applied for was to become the Duchess of York’s (Natalie Dormer) dresser at Buckingham Palace.
Much to the surprise of her family and friends, Jane quickly secures her place in the social circles of Britain while developing a strong bond with Fergie.
However, after nine years of loyalty and service, palace cutbacks in 1997 saw her job made redundant.

Still reeling from her termination, Jane meets and falls in love with charismatic businessman Thomas Cressman (Ed Speleers), of whom she grows extremely attached.
So when that relationship also appears to be on the outs, Jane spirals and takes drastic measures with deadly consequences.
At the heart of the four-part series will be Jane’s relationship with the Duchess.The pair form a firm friendship and Jane becomes Fergie’s close confidante.
Fergie even reportedly nicknamed her “Lady Jane”.
“When Jane Andrews was tried for the murder of Thomas Cressman in 2001 it made headlines around the world,” The Lady’s writer and executive producer Debbie O’Malley said in a recent interview.
“But behind those headlines lay a much more complex, painful and thought-provoking story – an exploration of female ambition and human frailty and a devastating chain of events that ended in the taking of a man’s life.
“And this story, tied up with our national preoccupation with class and our ongoing obsession with the royal Family, feels every bit as relevant now as it did twenty years ago.”
The Lady episodes 1 & 2 will be available to stream on BINGE and watch on Foxtel On Demand on February 23.
Episodes 3 & 4 will be available on March 2. Episodes will air weekly on Foxtel’s Showcase channel at 8:30pm from February 24.
