Florida is fun! The Sunshine State boasts plenty of opportunities for leisure and entertainment, with several huge theme parks that attract crowds year-round and more than 820 miles of sandy beach to lounge on. After all, Florida is home to “the most magical place on earth”: Disney World.
So, it comes as no surprise that the state has taken a top-two ranking on WalletHub’s yearly list of the “most fun” U.S. states for three years in a row.
This year, Florida slid out of first place, which it held on the 2024 version of WalletHub’s “most fun states” rankings.

What is the most fun state in the U.S.?
Florida and California have been taking turns in first place on WalletHub’s list of the “most fun” U.S. states. In 2023, California took first place and Florida took second. Last year, Florida took first and California took second.
This year, Florida is back in second place, with California in first. Nevada took third place, Illinois took fourth and New York took fifth place.
To rank the most fun states in the country, WalletHub compared each state across 26 metrics in two categories: Entertainment and recreation and nightlife.

Why is Florida a fun state?
Florida and California both have a plethora of sandy beaches, tourist attractions, theme and amusement parks, nightlife and other attractions to choose from, which is likely why they’ve both kept the top two spots on this list tied up for three years.
“Florida is the second-most fun state in 2025, leading the country when it comes to the number of restaurants, amusement parks, arcades and music festivals per capita,” WalletHub’s study says.
“But even if those particular activities aren’t of interest to you, Florida has the fourth-most attractions per capita, and the seventh-best variety of arts, entertainment and recreation establishments.”
