Popular comedian and actor John Mulrooney has died.

He was 67.

The Hollywood Reporter said that Mulrooney died suddenly on Monday at his home in Coxsackie, New York.

Mulrooney was known for his work as a stand-up comedian, and he hosted “Comic Strip Live” on Fox.

“I’m just stunned,” Steve Van Zandt told the Albany Times-Union. “To talk to somebody less than two weeks ago, and he had mentioned what he was dong for Christmas, and he was looking forward to 2026 because had a pretty full calendar.

“It’s all so unexpected,” he added. “It’s all sinking in.”

Mulrooney became a star in the Albany area via the radio in the late 1990s, per the Times-Union, when he began co-hosting a morning show at WPYX. And, in 2014, he began hosting “Mulrooney in the Morning” on iHeartRadio.

Along with his time hosting “Comic Strip Live,” Mulrooney appeared on networks such as Showtime, HBO and Comedy Central. The Hollywood Reporter noted that he was a fill-in for Joan Rivers when she fired from Fox’s “Late Show” in 1997, and also guest hosted “The Pat Sajak Show” on CBS.

His list of acting credits included “Ryder P.I.,” “The Good Life,” and “Hardball.”

Aside from his work as a comedian and actor, the Hollywood Reporter noted that Mulrooney began working as a police officer with the Coxsackie Police Department in 2010 and worked there through 2024.

“I’m in shock at the news that John Mulrooney passed away,” Tim Tyrrell wrote on X. “We met over thirty years ago at Mix 105 radio in New York City and instantly clicked. Through the years, we have done shows for iHeart, Sirius, Howard 101, and many podcasts. He was an amazing and loyal friend. So many performers and writers looked to John for advice, and he was always willing to help anyone. Rest in peace, Johnny.”
